Nickel-lean austenitic. Work-hardens faster than 304 and costs less, best kept to dry indoor duty.

Austenitic that takes spring temper after cold rolling. The default where the part has to return.
304
The balanced default: forming, welding and general corrosion resistance in one grade.
304L
Low-carbon 304. Resists sensitization after welding, so it suits welded thin assemblies.
316L
Molybdenum-bearing. Raises chloride pitting and crevice resistance well above 304.
321
Titanium-stabilized against carbide precipitation. The standard heat treating tool wrap to 1093 °C.
309S
Higher chromium and nickel for hot service. Tool wrap and furnace parts to 1227 °C.
310S
Sustained high-temperature oxidation resistance for radiant tubes, baffles and heat shields.
430
Ferritic and magnetic with low nickel content. Appliance panels and magnetic shield layers.

Duplex. Roughly twice the yield strength of 304 with strong chloride cracking resistance.
